MUGA MULTI-USE GAMES AREA PROJECTHoward Close Recreation Ground

RUNNING THE BALLOON RACE ON PAGEANT DAY

1st Prize £50 sponsored by C. H. Publications & J.G. Swimming

The idea of improving the Village facilities by building a Multi-use Games Area on Howard Close came out of the extensive research which Reigate & Banstead council carried out in 2006 when compiling the Walton Village Community Action Plan. Residents, especially those with families, put the lack of facilities for our youngsters as one of the main “missings”.

MUGA MULTI-USE GAMES AREA PROJECT Various meetings have been held with several groups in the village, including a group of teenagers, and as a result, this project will be in 2 phases, the basic MUGA will be built first and then we have plans to extend the facilities as we see what use is made of the first phase.

We have been fund-raising for the past 2 years and, with the help of donations from a number of sources, including last years’s May Pageant, and particularly the successful application by the Council for a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, a tender has been accepted and building work will start soon after the May Pageant for completion of the first phase in August.

The money donated by the May Pageant and other funds raised this year will go to enhancing the facilities available. We are always happy to discuss the project and welcome ideas for fund-raising or for other facilities.

Help For Heroes (H4H)The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre is the premier facility for the rehabilitation of injured Service personnel and has been since the Second World War.

Help for Heroes was set up in October last year with the main aim of improving the lot of UK Service men and women injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. The charity’s founder, cartoonist Bryn Barry, approached the Chief of General Staff, Sir Richard Dannatt, to establish what was needed. His response was a swimming pool and gym complex at the

Tri-Service Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court. Providing this will add an important new facility to the Centre which will directly help the wounded in their rehabilitation process.

The estimated cost of the new complex is £6 million. H4H are determined to raise this sum this year and so far, thanks to the generosity of their supporters and the wider public, have raised over £4 million.

You can follow the campaign’s progress on their website: www.helpforheroes.org.uk. The charity are very grateful to the organisers of the Walton-on-the-Hill pageant for their support. We look forward to welcoming you to our stall at the Pageant.
